John is a qualified hairdresser and has been in Manchester for 40 years with the last 30 years as Partner in Claritys Hair Design salon in the city centre. John has been the driving force behind the Tie Towel idea; making early samples he developed the concept with his typical enthusiasm and Mancunian style.

In recognition of his fund raising and services to the hair dressing community, John Wood was awarded an MBE in the Queens Honours. John has help raise over £100,000 for St Damians School and the new Children's Hospital
